The use of associative memory in learning the basic math facts of arithmetic has been relied upon too heavily to practice math skills repetitively throughout the higher maths. This leads to a profound lack of understandings required of those maths.
Our solution is to help the student discard wrong assumptions and misconceptions and to complete the gaps in their understanding by sharpening the student's inquiry process as they approach and work through the different problem types.
LEARNING HOW TO WORK THROUGH EACH PROBLEM TYPE
Instead of evaluating students by how many problems they get wrong, we have established a way to follow them as they work through each problem so as to evaluate how they approach and work through the problem. They will learn to recognize and characterize the different problem types. They will learn to ask the right questions so as to access the pertinent information to solve their problems.
INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PROFILE
Being able to follow the student through each step allows the tutor to determine the appropriate interventions. Progress can be tracked by evaluating the step by step digital profile the student accumulates indicating where that student's strengths and weaknesses are. This individual learning profile helps the tutor understand where specifically that student needs more help. Each problem, then, is an opportunity to learn more about that problem type so as to require less and less help with it. Instead of doing many problems of the same type repetitively and indiscriminately, the student will only practice as many repetitions and variations as is needed to have learned how to solve that particular problem type with no extra help. This is actually more of a real world approach at problem solving than what is traditionally taught in school. It results in much more efficient learners, allowing them to advance much more rapidly.

For the child, math can be a game that is only as much fun as the child has confidence in being able to win. For the adult, math has a greater purpose. Math is the conceptual world that God gave us to quantify the physical depths of his creation and to take part in creating new materials and technologies that improve our human condition. As students mature through their high school years, they acquire the ambition to establish great careers. Most of these young adults don't realize that they are actually setting themselves back by settling for good grades in a competitively deficient curriculum . We are now entering a time when the opportunity for a formidable technological career will best be achieved by a competitive grasp of Calculus prior to college. Only those students who realize the real purpose of math enrichment will take a sufficient interest and pursue a deep and broad understanding of math with confidence and passion. Our students will understand that the competition for their career jobs will be taking place at least on that level.
